The Carillon Newspaper is hiring a motivated Newspaper Writer to join its editorial team. This student-run publication, serving the university community since 1962, covers topics like campus news, features, arts, sports, and opinion pieces. The role involves researching, writing, and editing high-quality content, collaborating with the Editor in Chief to develop story ideas, and maintaining journalistic standards.
Key responsibilities include creating and reporting content (60%), story development and community engagement (30%), and professional development (10%). Writers will engage with the university community, propose stories, and attend local events. The position also offers opportunities for mentorship and skill-building workshops.
Applicants should have a passion for journalism, strong writing skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Prior writing experience is preferred but not required. The position is full-time from June 2 to August 1, 2025, with 30 hours per week. The hourly rate is $17, with paid vacation and sick leave.
The selected candidate must meet the following eligibility requirements:
Between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment.
Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act, S.C. 2001, c. 27.
Legally entitled to work according to relevant provincial legislation and regulations.
