The Principal is responsible for the leadership, administration, and day-to-day operations of kihiw waciston community school, focusing on delivering a high-quality, culturally responsive educational experience for students in Kindergarten to Grade 7.
The Principal works collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and the community to ensure student success and well-being. They manage school operations, instructional leadership, staff performance, transportation services, and ensure school policies align with provincial standards and community priorities.
ROLES AND RESPOSIBILITIES
Instructional Leadership
Lead the implementation of school-based educational programs, including the Daily 5 literacy framework, numeracy programs, and land-based learning initiatives.
Collaborate with the Special Education Teacher and Literacy Catalyst to monitor and improve student outcomes, ensuring appropriate interventions and support are in place for students with special needs or those requiring additional assistance.
Monitor and support the Nehiyawewin Language Teacher in integrating cultural teachings and language instruction into the curriculum.
Conduct regular classroom observations, provide constructive feedback to teachers, and foster a professional learning community focused on continuous improvement.
School Operations & Management
Oversee the daily operations of the school, including attendance, scheduling, discipline, and student behavior management.
Manage transportation logistics for Kihiw students, as well as students attending Leask Community School and Blaine Lake Composite School, ensuring safe, reliable, and cost-effective transportation services.
Coordinate with bus drivers, ensure adherence to transportation safety standards, and maintain schedules for pick-up/drop-off times.
