Description

POSTION SUMMARY:  
As part of a dynamic team in the Crisis Shelter and Residence, the Crisis Counsellors provide critical supports and services to women and their children residing at the YWCA Crisis Shelter.  

POSITION REPORTING:  
Reports to Shelter Manager

HOURS OF WORK:  
This is an 8 hour night shift position working 5 nights per week that includes weekends and holidays.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:   Working as part of a collaborative team, provide:

    Provide respectful and compassionate crisis counselling and support services to women accessing services;
    Intake and assessment of client assets and needs;
    Case coordination and client advocacy; facilitate in house programming activities
    Provide support to Youth, Wellness Recovery and Turning Points programs residents;
    Provide back up support to Shelter;
    Supervise the Shelter and Residence to maintain safe and comfortable environment for all residents;
    Provide referrals and liaise with other community resources;
    Maintain accurate and timely reporting as required;

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

    Bachelor of Social Work  an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered;
    Experience working with women and families in crisis;
    Experience working with clients dealing with addictions, mental health, domestic violence, homelessness and justice related issues;
    Experience working in a Trauma Informed Care environment is an asset;
    Strong verbal and written communication skills;
    Able to work independently but also contribute as part of a strong collaborative team;
    Broad knowledge and experience in working with
