The Pre-Employment Counselor provides guidance to individuals preparing for employment. This includes helping clients set career goals, improve job readiness, and build skills for securing and maintaining jobs, assesses client needs, offers career advice, and connects them with resources like training, job opportunities, and workshops.
Responsibilities:
Provide individual/group counseling to help clients identify career goals and skills
Assist clients with job readiness, resume writing, interviewing, job search, and workplace etiquette
Organize workshops on job readiness, soft skills, and job search strategies
Connect clients to educational programs, training, and community services
Maintain accurate, confidential records of client progress and services
Document data and report program outcomes for funding purposes
Collaborate with team, partners, and employers to create job opportunities
Follow up with clients to track progress and adjust plans as needed
Develop tools to evaluate program effectiveness and identify improvements
Maintain job bank and client records, including skills, contact info, and progress notes
Qualifications
2+ years of experience in employment counseling and job search support
Diploma/Degree in Human Services, Social Work, Business, Career Counseling, or related field
2+ years of coaching/mentoring experience, with strong rapport-building and motivation skills
Excellent relationship-building and emotional intelligence
Strong networking skills and knowledge of employers across sectors
In-depth understanding of the Canadian labor market and job search strategies
Experience working with employers to create job opportunities
Skilled in developing materials, tools , and presentations
Flexible and open when working with others during change
Strong computer skills (MS Office, internet, databases, and social media)
