Undergraduate degree in social sciences, humanities or similar is preferred;
Direct experience working with the SWIS program or in cross cultural settings would be considered definite asset;
Experience working with diverse teams and Service Provider Organizations;
Experience working with vulnerable populations, particularly immigrants and refugees;
Objectives:
Conduct needs assessments with students & their families
Provide students and families with information and referrals to
education and community resources
Work with a team to plan & facilitate orientations, workshops, training
sessions and events for newcomers
Keep up to date client progress notes, complete monthly reporting obligations, maintain caseload and client files
Arrange and attend regular school and home visits
Work collaboratively with the settlement workers, teachers, school counsellors, principals, and administration
Crisis counselling and referrals for families, as needed
Liaise with schools, share best practices and provide support where there may be challenges
Increase public, awareness of settlement and newcomer issues through presentations, meetings and community involvement
All other tasks as requested by Manager
