Job Summary
Educational Assistants are role models in our community. The Educational Assistant is self-motivated and provides
support services to students and teachers to meet program and education goals. An understanding of First Nations
Languages, culture and traditions is an asset.
Qualifications:
Grade 12 diploma or equivalent; Post-secondary education such as Early Childhood Development/Educational
Assistant and/or previous experience as an Education Assistant would be an asset
Possess a current and valid drivers license
Proficiency in the operation of computers
CPIC and vulnerable persons check
Skills and Abilities:
Desire to work with children; work independently, follow instructions and be flexible to changing situations
Appreciation and respect for diversity and First Nation Language, culture and traditions
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
Good written and oral communication skills along with strong organizational skills, recordkeeping skills and
computer skills
Ability to engage students in a positive manner and work collaboratively in a team environment
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in the supervision of the classroom during short periods under the direction of the teacher,
Under the supervision and direction of the teacher, assist students with prepared lessons, assignments, play or
activities,
Assist the teacher by preparing materials, photocopying,
Adhere to protocols established by principal/administration to ensure consistency with student expectations
One-on-one assignment as per the needs of specific student(s)
Circulate and reinforce on-task behaviours
Maintain social/emotional anecdotal records, checklists, etc. as per individualized program plans
Maintain cleanliness and organization to ensure safety of staff, students and the facility
Completion of daily day plan
Supervise lunch programs and recess,
Other duties as assigned
