Description

The Director of Finance is responsible for providing and overseeing a broad range of financial management services, advice and expertise.
Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities:
    Provide financial management support to the Band Manager (COO) and other senior management  
    Prepare the annual budget and financial plan for the Nation and assist with any external business entities as requested/required
    Report monthly to the Finance & Audit Committee and prepare the monthly and quarterly unaudited financial reports
    Report to Finance & Audit Committee and Chief & Council annually on the financial performance of the Nation (and entities), and prepare the annual financial statements for audit, and manage the annual year-end process
    Provide financial advice and accounting support to the Nations entities, as required
    Attend and report to the Chief & Council meetings, as requested
    Sustain control systems necessary to ensure the effective administration of the Nations finances and assets
    Engage with outside agencies for fund reporting, auditing, certification and compliance reporting  
    Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll and internal reporting
    Provide technical and other assistance to the Finance & Audit Committee
    Maintain confidentiality and neutrality
    Manage the Finance Department and budget in accordance with Nation standards and performance expectations
    Recruit, coach and support assigned staff
    Ensure timelines and budget cycles are followed in accordance with the Nations Financial Policy
    Promote a performance-focused environment aligned with Nations values, culture and business goals
Education and Experience:
    Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles & the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants code of conduct; federal & provincial legislation & policies affecting First Nation governments, entities, corporations, boards & businesses; federal and provincial governments funding mechanisms, auditing etc.
