Responsibilities: To work with the clients of the YWCA Central Avenue Shelter, providing guidance, support, and life skills to empower and promote independence. To maintain a clean and secure facility and assist the residents when necessary.
Hours of Work: Evenings, Weekends, and overnight shifts to be expected - as best suits the needs of the program.
Qualifications:
Have excellent people skills and work well in crises;
Must be flexible, reliable, and willing to participate in continuous learning opportunities;
Must be able to lift heavy items/perform heavy cleaning;
Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture with a mindset accepting of reconciliation;
Valid Class 5 Driver's License - Those without a Class 5 Driver's License need not apply;
Reliable transportation;
Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
Computer skills (including Microsoft Office, Email communication, & Data entry);
Must pass Criminal Record & Vulnerable Sector Check;
Ability to work independently and follow policies and procedures;
Duties:
Guide the residents, providing support & advocacy as they transition to independence;
Must be a good role model to clients;
Maintain building security, perform room/bag checks;
Ensure major housecleaning duties are completed as well as everyday cleaning/chores;
Ensure room checks are completed on a consistent basis, report any need for repairs or replacement to the maintenance team;
Attend staff meetings, training, and workshops as required;
Communicate with the Manager/Supervisors and co-workers as part of a cohesive team;
Provide feedback to the Manager/Supervisors on client issues, major events, and incident reports;
Attend to crises as they arise during no-office hours. Contact the Manager/Supervisor in the event of a major crisis;
Ensure policies are adhered to as per contracts with: MSS< CPS/YO, & CSC;
Any other duties as required;
