MGBHLM First Nations is looking for a Full Time Buffalo Keeper. The Buffalo Keeper will be working under the supervision of the Buffalo Paddock Coordinator and will be responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of the buffalo herd, as well as managing habitat maintenance, visitor experiences, and educational programs related to the Buffalo. The Buffalo Keeper will ensure the Bison/Buffalo of MGBHLM First Nation are attended to and are safely cared for in their natural habitat.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Care and attention to the health and safety of the Bison/Buffalo;
Monitor feed and water levels for Bison/Buffalo in the pasture and report findings to the Lands Manager;
Organize and schedule consistent feeding schedules for the Bison/Buffalo;
Schedule all Buffalo Keepers to ensure adequate and necessary attendance;
Record and assist in any creation, repairs and maintenance of corrals, fences, buildings and equipment;
Operate heavy equipment such as skid steers, tractors, post pounders etc.;
Be available and/or schedule employees for emergency calls (ie: Weekends; Bison that are out of pastures in high traffic areas; equipment down)
Must be able to have knowledge that will assist in the use of tools to assist in maintaining pasture lands;
Create and maintain proper documentation for tracking all Bison/Buffalo;
Ensure all safety measures are consistently followed and reviewed frequently;
Must have the ability to supervise Buffalo Keepers to ensure all work is completed;
Must treat all employees and members with courtesy and respect
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have prior experience working with Bison/Livestock;
Report writing and Data Management experience an asset;
Must have a valid Drivers License (Minimum Class 5);
Minimum Grade 12.
