KIDSFIRST ADDICTIONS COUNSELOR
The Addictions Counselor position will be a contract for one year with the possibility of full time permanent. The position provides assessment, counseling, referrals and follow-up to addictions issues experienced by KidsFirst families. The Addictions Counselor will work in collaboration with agencies in the community as well as working closely with KidsFirst Home Visitors. The Addictions Counselor will be required to work in a team setting as well as independently with minimal supervision, offering services in non-traditional ways in non-clinical settings. The Addictions Counselor will identify community resource requirements and address systemic barriers to accessing services by KidsFirst families.
Qualifications
Bachelor Degree in Chemical Dependency Studies or related field such as Social Work are preferred. Certificates and Diplomas in addictions field along with years of experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. Ability to accurately assess addictions and or addiction related issues and make appropriate recovery plans and referrals using a strength-based approach. Knowledge of needs/risk assessment, crisis management, case management skills, and treatment strategies for high-risk families. Knowledge of addictions theories and the ability to integrate concepts into practice. Trauma informed with an understanding of Indigenous family systems, residential schools and inter-generational impacts. Excellent oral, written and computer communication skills. Aboriginal language and ancestry would be an asset. Complete accurate and timely case recordings and client records in a manner that ensures confidentiality. Complete and maintain file records for workload analysis and statistical purposes. A Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Search is required. A valid driver's license, drivers abstract and operational vehicle are required. Wages commensurate with education and experience.
