Description

SPSA has a permanent full time opportunity for Director, Air Attack Program based in La Ronge or Prince Albert. This position reports directly to the Executive Director of Air Operations.

Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Supervision: Oversee Air Attack Officers, Tanker Base Operators, and the Contracted Aviation Services Coordinator. Coordinate, schedule, and assign work duties, evaluate performance, and provide coaching and corrective actions. Develop career plans and conduct interim reviews.
- Training and Evaluation: Develop and administer comprehensive training programs for Air Attack Officers and Tanker Base Operators. Evaluate staff performance and implement necessary corrective actions.
- Budget Management: Participate in annual budget allocation and preparation to ensure appropriate spending, capture incoming revenue during exports, and identify unnecessary expenditures.
- Policy Development: Create and update policies related to aerial suppression, ensuring alignment with other provincial agencies.
- Procurement: Manage contracts and procurement for aviation services, including detection, floatplanes, helicopters, and charters in liaison with Land Operations. Manage the procurement of fire retardants, water enhancers, and foam concentrates. Prepare Requests for Proposals (RFP) documents, review bids, and recommend successful bids. Liaise with industry representatives and address public inquiries on product use.
- Inter-Agency Collaboration: Work with other Canadian aviation managers on safety, regulations, training, and operational guidelines.
- Facility Management: Oversee the operation and maintenance of 8 tanker bases. Plan and implement new tanker bases and enhancement projects.
