This position involves performing journeyperson-level mechanical service, maintenance, and repair for a variety of vehicles, heavy-duty equipment, and agricultural/industrial machinery. The role requires inspecting, overhauling, and servicing trucks, specialized bodies, and other equipment, diagnosing issues, conducting repairs across multiple systems (hydraulics, brakes, engines, etc.), and performing safety inspections. The incumbent will also conduct road tests, train and supervise apprentices, and maintain operational standards. The position reports to the Coordinator, Transit & Fleet Maintenance.
To qualify, candidates must have a Journeyperson Certificate in Truck and Transport, Heavy Duty Mechanics, Agricultural Machinery Technician, or Automotive Service Technician, with at least two years of experience in the heavy truck industry. Strong diagnostic skills, knowledge of vehicle systems, and the ability to perform complex repairs independently are essential. A valid Class 1A drivers license, mechanics tools, and eligibility for SGI Inspection Technician certification are required. The role also involves shift work in various weather conditions and the ability to work both indoors and outdoors.
