The Saskatchewan Coroners Service (SCS) in the Ministry of Justice and Attorney General is responsible for the investigation of all sudden, unexpected and unnatural deaths in order to improve the health, safety, and quality of life of the citizens of Saskatchewan.
The Coroners Service is seeking a dedicated and experienced nursing professional for the permanent full time Coroner (Nurse) position located in Regina. As part of our dynamic team, you will have extensive experience and will apply your knowledge and expertise as a nursing professional to lead investigations and assess and analyze relevant information in order to provide a comprehensive report on your findings, and make appropriate recommendations as required.
Reporting to the Regional Supervising Coroner, you will:
- Attend the scene of death and complete a thorough examination of the scene, the body and the history of the deceased through the collection of relevant information and evidence;
- Apply the nursing process to medico legal issues, using your nursing expertise, analytical, investigative and problem solving skills, as well as sound judgment to lead death investigations in accordance with The Coroners Act and The Vital Statistics Act;
- Liaise with police, health professionals, transport service companies, next-of-kin and other partner agencies, as required, in completing your investigation;
- Review completed death investigations conducted by community coroners to ensure quality assurance;
- Assist in liaising and providing guidance, expertise and direction to community coroners within the region; and
- Assist in the development and implementation of regional policies and procedures, as well as educating and training coroners and stakeholders.
