The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) is a treasury board crown responsible for emergency communications including Sask911 and SaskAlert, wildfire management, emergency management and fire safety. This centralized agency ensures a single point of contact for communities, greater co-ordination of provincial resources and contributes to safer communities in our province.
The SPSA is seeking an energetic and motivated individual for the position of Meteorologist.
Under the supervision of the Chief Meteorologist, you will:
- Analyze weather data such as satellite imagery, numerical model output, radar imagery, vertical soundings, surface observations and lightning data;
- Forecast short-range and mid-range weather events for wildfire and other environmental emergencies, preparedness planning and suppression operations, prescribed burn operations and emergency requests;
- Prepare and disseminate fire or emergency weather analysis and forecasts and provide pertinent meteorological information to provincial, regional, and district staff;
- Produce weather briefings for SPSA staff;
- Monitor the operation of the SPSA remote sensing network and satellite downlink data feed, and initiate repairs/troubleshooting requests or procedures if necessary;
- Assist in the production and delivery of weather training modules.
You will also participate in scientific team projects; monitor the weather information system modules as requested; develop and present digital presentations; handle routine requests for fire weather or climatological data; and represent the Weather Unit at meetings.
