Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented, creative, and intelligent cook for our centre who is able to order food and think critically about how best to organize and prepare meals for our families. The cook will ensure our kitchen runs smoothly and effectively. They also keep track of kitchen inventory, promote food safety, maintain cleanliness and order in the kitchen. This position works 10 hour shifts, four days per week, and will overlap with our other fulltime cook one day per week.
Knowledge and Experience:
Understanding and maintenance of quality and safety in the kitchen
Ensuring that food is prepared and stored in accordance with health and safety regulations
Experience with different cooking tools, equipment, and utensils
Expert knowledge of various cooking and preparation methods and procedures
Expert knowledge of safe food handling and storage theory and techniques
Expert knowledge of food contamination prevention
Experience monitoring and minimizing waste
Strong communication skills both written and verbal
Able to withstand long hours of standing, bending, and moving around
Basic knowledge of mathematics to ensure correct measurement of ingredients
Ensuring a high standard of cleanliness and order
Ability to make adjustments to accommodate clients with specific diet and health concerns
Coordination and time management
Experience in cost management
Punctuality and professionalism
Qualifications
Red Seal certification would be preferred but not required
3 5 years of cooking experience
