The asky internship is both a job and learning experience focused on enhancing connections to land, food and culture. JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be between the ages of 18-30 years old.
- Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have been granted refugee status. Student Work Visas are not accepted for this position
- Legally allowed to work in Canada.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Growing food: planting, weeding, maintaining, harvesting a large garden site
- Working with volunteers: hosting individual and volunteer groups, school and community groups; giving garden tours
- Supporting Spouts Garden Day Camp: assist in planning, set up, participating in all camp activities in an active support role, closing duties at the end of each camp day.
- Participate in workshops, mentorships, excursions, cultural activities
SKILLS/ASSETS:
- Experience working with children in outdoor environments
- Experience with childrens camps an asset
- Enjoys physical, outdoor work in all weather conditions
- Experience or keen interest in gardening or urban agriculture
- Cultural understanding and sensitivity
- Communication, conflict resolution and creative problem-solving skills
- Experience working with volunteers
- Teamwork, flexibility, adaptability, curiosity and compassion
WORK SCHEDULE:
Some hours can be scheduled flexibly but learning sessions and camp dates are mandatory and are not flexible. Scheduling will be discussed during interviews; please email urbanag@chep.org if you have questions.
CHEP Sprouts Kids Day Camp runs July 7-10 and July 21-24, 8:30am- 4pm. Availability for these dates and times, as well as camp-related training times, is necessary for this position.
