Responsibilities:
- Provide user support to general users, beamteam members, fee-for-service clients, and CLS staff.
- Supervise and support users to ensure that they are able to perform their scientific experiments in an effective manner.
- Analyze and solve beamline or technical problems and develop recommendations to solve difficult, complex or unusual problems.
- Aid the Beamline Responsible in beamline upgrade/maintenance projects.
- Develop technical expertise in specific areas of beamline operation and instrumentation including software.
- Prepare beamline documentation and operational manuals.
- Working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, is a requirement of the position.
Qualifications:
- For the Associate Scientist level, a relevant undergraduate or Masters degree is required. For the Scientist level, a relevant Masters degree or Ph.D. in the physical sciences or engineering is required.
- A minimum of two years of directly related experience with a Masters degree, or a minimum of one year of related experience with a Ph.D. degree.
- Experience with x-ray absorption spectroscopy and/or x-ray imaging is required.
- Experience with ultrahigh vacuum systems, advanced instrument development, and x-ray optics will be strong assets, but are not required.
- Basic programming skills in python or C++ is an asset.
- Candidates should demonstrate a clear aptitude for research, particularly in programs requiring collaboration.
