The Family Support Specialist Programs objective is to provide in-home support to families by strengthening family communication, and problem-solving skills. Enhancing family cohesion while decreasing the number of children going into the care of the Ministry of Social Services.
A family Support Specialist (FSS) will help families learn positive parenting skills and strategies, increase parent(s) knowledge of child development, and help identify and access formal and informal community supports. FSS will help children and youth who do not reside in the parental family home, return to the home with a supported transition.
The Family Support Specialist is responsible to the Family Support Specialist Coordinator. Family Support Specialists are required to keep confidentiality a priority at all times.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The Family Support Specialist must be capable to work alone or as part of a team, offer hands on support, in a non-judgmental manner. Have empathy and an open mind when dealing with clients, offer intervention support and hands on practical services. Demonstrate respect at all times towards clients, co-workers and community agencies as well as the following:
- Some post-secondary education, or minimum three years experience in human services field.
- Counseling skills and mediation an asset.
- Excellent written, oral and reporting skills.
- Ability to work independently and take direction.
- Knowledge of child growth, development, behavior and knowledge of community resources.
- Understanding of Native Culture.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Maintain respect and confidentiality.
- Flexibility regarding hours of work.
- Must provide clear criminal and vulnerable sector checks prior to offer of employment.
**Must have a valid Saskatchewan driverss license, reliable vehicle and a clear driving abstract.
