Description

The Director of Finance is responsible for providing and overseeing a broad range of financial management services, advice and expertise. Working closely with the Management Team and elected officials, and as a member of the Management Team, this position is responsible for analyzing financial management matters, identifying alternatives and recommending solutions that address immediate and longer term operational and strategic requirements. The Director of Finance is also responsible for providing day-to-day financial administration in support of procurement, financial accountability, transparency and sound financial governance, in accordance with legislation, policies and procedures, and generally all accepted accounting principles.

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    Provide financial management support to the Band Manager (COO) and other senior management  
    Prepare the annual budget and financial plan for the Nation and assist with any external business entities as requested/required
    Report monthly to the Finance & Audit Committee and prepare the monthly and quarterly unaudited financial reports
    Sustain control systems necessary to ensure the effective administration of the Nations finances and assets
    Engage with outside agencies for fund reporting, auditing, certification and compliance reporting  
    Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll and internal reporting
    Provide technical and other assistance to the Finance & Audit Committee

Education and Experience:
    University degree in Commerce, Business Management/Administration, Accounting. Masters degree preferred;
    Preference may be given to applicants with a professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CGA, CMA), and/or Certified Aboriginal Finance (CAFM) or equivalent.  
    A minimum of 5-10 years continuous senior management experience with proven track record of effective management;
    Proficiency with computer software programs
