Responsibilities:
-Promote a strong Safety Culture by educating and coaching staff
-Responsible for the direction, supervision, and coordination of Safety, Emergency Response and Industrial Hygiene Team. This includes the following:
-Coordination of staff and preparation of reports
-Coordinate personnel scheduling for the group
-Team professional development
-Monitoring compliance with established company policy, legislated requirements, best practice and site procedures
-Prevention and response to health and/or safety hazards. This includes review, investigation, evaluation, trend analysis, and follow-ups of corrective actions
-Assist with the development of company-wide safety training programs
-Advise senior leadership on safety initiatives
-Liason with Process Safety Team and promote the process safety culture
-Serve as a liaison with regulatory agencies
-Responsible for group budget control
-Identify risks and implement preventative measures
-Develop and implement policies, procedures, and training designed to limit risk from recurring health or safety hazards
Skills and Qualifications:
-Extensive safety related experience is required
-Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety is preferred
-5-10 years of experience in mining or other heavily regulated industry
-Experience/training in Emergency Reponse is an asset
-Professional designation (e.g., CRSP, CHSC, NEBOSH, etc.) is an asset
-Proficient computing skills and experience with MS Office
-Demonstrated advanced written and verbal communication skills
-Demonstrated interpersonal skills
-Solid organizational skills and able to multitask
-Able to work independently and take charge of situations.
Work Location & Schedule:
-McClean Lake Mine Site
-14 days in and 14 days out rotating schedule
-11 hour work days required, although some activity outside of normal working hours may be required
