The Research Finance Officer has a key role in the day-to-day coordination of processes related to the efficient operations of the Office of Applied Research and Innovation (OARI), the Research Ethics and Animal Care approval processes, and OARI internal funding opportunities. The position will have a critical role in ensuring positive working relationships with a multitude of internal and external partners; will act as first point of contact in providing advice to faculty/instructors regarding research funding, research ethics, animal care, internal funding, or any other applied research office function or information; as well as providing support for ongoing office financial operations and budgeting.
Working within a fast-paced environment, the incumbent will be responsible for multi-tasking, providing day to day management of research funding, prioritizing diverse projects within competing deadlines and making suggestions to support decision making based on changing, multi-faceted, and sometimes ambiguous information. Additionally, the Research Finance Officer provides support to applied research projects and related activities, including financial and human resources oversight as well as monitoring funding guidelines compliance. The Research Finance Officer interacts with multiple units with the Polytechnic to arrange for purchasing, hiring of staff to research projects and tracking the work/payment of those staff, together with completion of financial reporting and invoicing. The position provides operations and general management of the internal database system and provides metrics and reporting support to the OARI Associate Vice-President.
This position requires strong critical thinking skills with the ability to gather interpret and synthesize information from a multitude of diverse sources and implement solutions with a high level of cognizance for positive and negative outcomes.
