Reporting to CICs General Counsel, this position is part of a team responsible to proactively identify and manage legal risks and issues for CIC and the Crown sector in Saskatchewan. This position also works with significant independence providing legal services to a CIC subsidiary Crown corporation.
This position will:
Formulate legal strategies and options, identifying and analyzing potential liabilities, assessing risks and developing mitigation strategies on relevant matters.
Collaborate with CIC staff, Crown executives, and relevant stakeholders on complex business issues and initiatives, and other matters impacting the Crown sector and Government of Saskatchewan.
Provide strategic advice, prepare, review and negotiate legal documents on matters including commercial transactions, procurement, contracts and other legal agreements.
Provide policy and legal advice on new and emerging matters including analyzing and reviewing amendments to legislation, regulations or Orders in Council and drafting, interpreting and advising on legislative and regulatory amendments.
Research, gather and evaluate information to determine the business requirements and impact of applicable laws, contractual terms, corporate policies and industry practices.
Proactively monitor and advise on changes in the law.
Participate, and as required, represent the interests of CIC on committees and legal forums.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor Degree and be a member of The Law Society of Saskatchewan (LSS) or eligible for immediate enrollment as a member; with at least five to eight (5-8) years of experience in private practice, as corporate in-house counsel or as public sector legal counsel, in areas relevant to CIC and the broader Crown sector in Saskatchewan.
