The Traditional Elder Counsellor will develop and implement a culturally grounded Youth Mental Wellness program. Rooted in Indigenous teachings and practices, this role facilitates connections between youth, Elders, and Traditional Knowledge Keepers to provide culturally relevant mental health support. The coordinator will play a vital role in reducing stigma surrounding mental health, promoting positive coping strategies, and supporting youth wellness and resilience.
Program Development & Implementation:
Design and oversee the Traditional Elders Counseling Program, integrating practices such as sweat lodges, Rain Dance ceremonies, and other cultural rituals.
Collaborate with Elders and Knowledge Keepers to ensure program alignment with cultural teachings and youth needs.
p and maintain a schedule of activities and counseling sessions beyond standard office settings and hours.
Client Engagement & Support:
Foster a safe, supportive space for youth to connect with Elders and healthy community members.
Provide mentorship to encourage lifelong learning of coping strategies and cultural practices.
Facilitate crisis support and ongoing interventions for youth and families.
Community Outreach & Collaboration:
Build partnerships with local organizations, health services, and stakeholders to enhance program offerings.
Promote family involvement in cultural and counseling initiatives.
Act as a bridge to community healing programs and resources.
Monitoring & Evaluation:
Track participation and outcomes, including engagement metrics and connection-building results.
Gather feedback from participants, Elders, and partners for continuous improvement.
Present regular progress reports to the Principal and stakeholders.
