POSITION:    ADDICTIONS SUPPORT WORKER
DEPARTMENT:    HEALTH
WAGE RANGE:    BASED ON QUALIFICATIONS
CLASSIFICATION:    PERMANENT, FULL-TIME

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Addictions Support Worker provides culturally sensitive support to individuals and families impacted by addiction. This role focuses on community-based support within Kahkewistahaw First Nation, integrating Indigenous knowledge and traditional healing practices. The Addictions Support Worker collaborates with other health team members and local agencies to create a supportive and inclusive environment that promotes Healing and Recovery. The Addictions Support Worker will be under direct supervision of the Health Director.
REQUIRED SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:
1.    Diploma or degree in Social Work, Counseling, Addictions Studies, or related field is preferred but not necessary
2. Willing to take additional training (if required).  
3. Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, traditional healing practices, and a commitment to cultural sensitivity.
4. Ability to build a rapport w. clients while maintaining confidentiality and discretion
5. Knowledge of local resources, agencies, and other treatment options.
6. Experience with trauma-informed care and harm reduction approaches.
7. Knowledge of intergenerational impact on Indigenous communities.
8. Possess strong written and oral communication skills required to report and communicate to, the Supervisor, Committee, Staff and Members.
9. Demonstrate and maintain empathy, trustworthiness, with an approachable understanding.  
10. Having the ability to follow direction and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
11. Possess the skills to manage personal client confidential information according to the oath of confidentiality.
12. Build communications with other departments to promote health and wellness.  
13. Possess a valid driver's license, own a reliable vehicle, and meet insurability requirements to operate band owned vehicles.
