Description

Living Sky School Division is seeking to contract a Tutor to support students with learning disabilities by providing online tutoring using the Barton Reading Program. The contract will start as soon as possible and last approximately 10 to 12 weeks. The position requires 5 hours of work per day, Monday to Friday, excluding school holidays.

The Barton Reading Program is designed to assist school-aged children with reading disabilities, such as dyslexia. It focuses on improving reading, writing, and spelling skills through personalized one-on-one tutoring. The program uses the proven Orton-Gillingham method, which teaches the phonemic structure of the English language using a multi-sensory approach. This method engages visual, auditory, tactile, and kinesthetic senses to support learners who benefit from a comprehensive, hands-on learning experience. The individualized nature of the program ensures that each student progresses at their own pace, addressing their unique literacy needs effectively.

While prior experience with the Barton Program is preferred, we welcome applications from candidates who are eager to learn. Training will be offered to ensure that all tutors, regardless of previous experience, are equipped to effectively deliver the program.

Qualifications:

Minimum Grade 12 education, with at least one (1) year of relevant childcare experience
A post-secondary certificate in Early Learning & Childcare, Youth Care Worker, or a similar program from a recognized institution would be considered an asset
The Ideal Candidate:

Genuinely enjoys working with children and demonstrates patience, empathy, and a passion for making learning fun
Possesses strong organizational and planning skills, and takes initiative
Has excellent communication skills
Is proficient in using online meeting platforms such as Microsoft Teams
Ability to work independently, managing time and tasks efficiently with minimal supervision
