Description

The Prevention Worker will provide supports to strengthen the families to prevent children from coming into care. This position will work within a team and receive referrals from Child Protection Services for individuals and families needing intensive support for healing and skill development. He or she will also provide support to families who have been identified as at risk prior to Child Protection Services being called. This will be done from the foundation of our Cree Values ensuring families are respected without judgement.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Adhere to the Personnel Policy as set out by the Chief and Council;
    Maintain strict confidentiality at all times;
    Work closely with the kotawn Manager, the Family Services Support Worker, Family Services Support Supervisor and all front-line workers;
    Introduce the Prevention program to community membership and provide continual promotion;
    Support individuals and families to attend community information workshops on effective and healthy lifestyle choices including parenting, life skills, anger management, money management, specialized information sessions on issues such as autism, FASD/E, dealing with trauma etc.
    Provide information, counselling, advocacy and support services to families;
    Have knowledge of the safety of the child/children such as risk of abuse and neglect and communicate risk to the appropriate party as per the duty to report;
    Identifying the need for family support services and possible resources available;
    Work within the case management team to develop family centered case plans with short and long term goals for each family and ensure on-going supports are available;
    In all circumstances, ensure that information of available services and supports are communicated to the family in need;
    Maintain confidential current, accurate, and complete case documentation from the first point of contact through to file closure as per standard and legislative requirements;
