MGBHLM is seeking a GIS/Mapping Technician to support land use planning, and other community mapping initiatives including environmental management planning. This role will involve utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to develop, manage, and analyze spatial data, data collection, create maps, and support various planning and environmental initiatives that contribute to the sustainability and stewardship of First Nation lands and resources.
GIS and Mapping Support:
Develop and maintain spatial datasets and maps using GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, QGIS).
Conduct spatial analyses to support land use planning, resource management, and environmental initiatives.
Produce maps, data tables, and other visual materials to communicate data and analysis results to different stakeholders.
Familiarity with integrating Indigenous knowledge and cultural values into GIS and mapping projects is an asset.
Utilize ArcGIS Online (e.g., Web Map, StoryMaps, Dashboards, and Survey 123, etc.) to create interactive maps, collecting spatial data, and developing spatial visualizations that enhance community engagement and planning projects.
Land Use Planning Support:
Collaborate with land use planners, environmental specialists, and other stakeholders to provide GIS data for community land use plans.
Qualifications
Diploma or bachelors degree in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, Urban Planning, or a related field. At least one year experience in a similar role, preferred, or an equivalent combination of skills, knowledge
Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in GIS and spatial analysis.
Experience in land use planning, environmental management, or resource management is a strong asset.
Proficiency with GIS software, especially ArcGIS Pro, and a basic understanding of ArcGIS Online applications (e.g., Web Map, StoryMaps, Dashboards).
Knowledge of Indigenous land use planning and environmental management principles.
