Reporting to the Director of Advocacy Services, the Advocacy and Legal Advisor will develop and maintain relationships with the Provincial Cabinet, ministerial staff, government caucus, opposition parties, media, senior bureaucrats, the provincial civil service, SUMA members and other SUMA staff to engage in research, committee and Board reporting, and advocacy. The Advocacy and Legal Advisor will also provide in-house legal services to SUMA in a variety of areas, including litigation, municipal law, planning and administration, employment law, real estate, and corporate law. They will also provide assistance with a range of municipal and corporate legal services, including bylaw enforcement, labour law, contracts, planning and development law, litigation, and legislative drafting.
The successful candidate will hold a law degree and membership in good standing with the Law Society of Saskatchewan and have experience in the practice of municipal or corporate law. Candidates must have a strong background in writing for various audiences and using a variety of communications vehicles; excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills; the ability to self-motivate and prioritize tasks; and the flexibility to adapt to new information and think on their feet. Some travel will be required, and applicants should possess a valid Saskatchewan drivers license.
Preference will be given to those with related governmental, municipal, or research experience.
The current salary range for this position is: $81,755 to $106,282, and placement on the scale will reflect qualifications and experience.
