The Branch Librarian is responsible for the delivery of public library service to the community. All operational and administrative library duties are the responsibility of the Branch Librarian. Work methods are governed by established procedures, but the employee must be able to exercise independent judgement, initiative, and work cooperatively with others. The Branch Librarian acts as the secretary to the local board, must be able to plan, schedule, train, and supervise staff. He/she must demonstrate leadership skills, promote the library, and work effectively with the board and public.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & SKILLS
- Completion of Grade 12. Preference given to applicants with a secondary education and/or library experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to teach, supervise, delegate tasks and demonstrate leadership skills.
- Ability to work co-operatively and positively with the board, staff, volunteers, and patrons.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality with respect to the affairs of the library.
- Ability to plan and execute library programs and events, and promote the library.
- Administrative duties to include budget preparedness, statistics, and reports.
- Computer literacy and knowledge, and skills with tablets and cell phones mandatory.
