Description

We are looking for a compassionate, caring, patient person, with an upbeat attitude and strong interpersonal and communication skills. The IBSW will provide support to women, their partner and families with continuous emotional support, physical comfort and assistance in obtaining information before, during or after childbirth. Duties:
Serve as a culturally competent liaison, connecting with elders, Cultural Advisors, or Traditional healers to facilitate  the development of culturally appropriate birth plans, support women and their families, and ensure culturally safe practices are upheld in all client-staff communications;
Collaborate with healthcare teams to support Indigenous women throughout prenatal, birth and early postpartum phases, discussing birth preferences beforehand, connecting patients with cultural/community supports; facilitating traditional birthing practices/ceremonies as requested, while ensuring thorough medical record documentation and active participation in team rounds and handovers;
Provide comprehensive cultural and prenatal education to both clients and hospital staff, integrating cultural birthing practices and promoting cultural safety through regular in-services and on-the-spot education sessions;

Qualifications:
Minimum Grade 12; Certificate in Birth Doula Studies Program or willing to obtain training and certification;
Ability to work within multidisciplinary teams; and work independently with limited supervision
Must possess Valid Class 5 Driver's license;
