The Recreation Worker will be responsible for planning and leading recreational and cultural activities for children living in the emergency receiving homes. This position will engage children in meaningful activities, including outings and Indigenous cultural programming, during evening and weekend hours. The role supports the emotional, social, and cultural development of the children by providing enriching experiences in a safe and nurturing environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and implement recreational activities for children in the emergency receiving homes, both on-site and in the community.
- Incorporate Indigenous cultural practices, traditions, and teachings into the programming.
- Supervise and ensure the safety of children during activities and outings.
- Collaborate with emergency receiving home staff to identify appropriate activities based on the children's interests and needs.
- Maintain accurate records of activities, attendance, and any incidents that occur during outings or programs.
- Communicate effectively with staff, children, and caregivers to ensure seamless coordination.
- Monitor children's behavior and provide guidance to encourage positive social interactions.
- Follow all safety protocols and organizational guidelines during activities and trips.
- Ensure confidentiality of all information related to children, staff, and the program.
- Assist with transporting children to and from activities, if required.
Requirements:
- Experience working with children, particularly in group settings or recreational programs.
- Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous cultural practices and a willingness to incorporate these into daily activities.
- Criminal record check with vulnerable sector check
- Valid driver's license and must have reliable transportation.
