Mosquito School is seeking a highly motivated, dynamic individual to fill the full-time position of an ELA Catalyst. Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide support to in-school professional staff in literacy instructional improvement.
Provide professional development activities and work with in-school staff in exploring a wide variety of literacy instructional strategies.
Work extensively with students to help them improve specific reading/writing skills such as letter-naming, initial sounds, phoneme segmentation, and comprehension strategies.
Focus on specific needs of particular students where regular classroom instruction is not sufficient.
Work with the teacher to design methods of learning that are most appropriate for each child.
Responsibilities:
Provide leadership and support through modeling and mentoring for teachers in planning, assessment and implementation of curriculum objectives and instructional approaches. The role is to support staff rather than to evaluate staff.
Research best practice and provide resources appropriate for implementation of curricula.
To encourage and facilitate innovative and creative teaching practices and resources so that concepts are taught in ways that are relevant to students.
To enhance teacher learning and professional knowledge to facilitate changes in thinking and practices where necessary.
In cooperation with the staff and Principal, organize the instructional Literacy program of the school and provide leadership in the field of curriculum development while ensuring that provincial curriculum requirements are met.
Provide leadership for setting a compelling and high-leveraged Literacy learning focus based on evidence that it can have significant impact on teaching practices and student learning.
