Description

Duties & Responsibilities:
The Counsellor provides therapeutic counselling in a group setting, education & awareness presentations, & related services to youth.  This position does not provide counselling in individual sessions. Reports to the Youth Project Manager (YPM)

Duties
Provide therapeutic counselling in a group setting
Facilitate education & awareness initiatives
Participate in program development
Represent FSS on community committees &/or groups
Perform related administrative/record keeping duties
Participate in clinical supervision & consult with the YPM
Assist with supervision of peers, students & individual cases
Perform work outside of regular operating hours, incl. evenings &/or weekends
Others as assigned

Qualifications
Completion of a BSW or BISW
1-3 years experience working with youth in a related area and with facilitating groups
Maintain good standing in a relevant professional association

Areas of Knowledge:
Facilitating group work, knowledge of group dynamics
Evidence-based therapeutic group interventions for youth
Interviewing, assessment, & evaluation techniques
Theories of human development, behavior & change  Family Systems Theory
Theories/practices of communication & conflict resolution and of trauma- & violence-informed approaches
Able to navigate consent with children, youth, & their caregivers
Able to recognize signs & symptoms of mental health disorders & high-risk clients
Awareness of/cultural sensitivity to the customs, spiritual beliefs & philosophy & perspective on family dynamics of Indigenous, immigrant, & newcomer populations
Commitment to professional growth
Promote services incl. using SM platforms
Perform duties in a confidential manner, always displaying professional ethics
Able to deal with people experiencing difficult, unusual, &/or challenging situations
Excellent written & verbal communication skills, time management/organizational skills
Valid drivers license, access to vehicle
