You will operate as part of a team to safely and efficiently move railcars around the rail yard ensuring that all business units serviced in a timely manner. In addition, you will assist with loading and unloading trains, general yard maintenance, and cross train with other departments. This position includes performing manual labour in most job tasks.
Responsibilities & Requirements
Become proficient in and follow local, provincial, and federal rail yard operating procedures and policies
Transfer railcars around site, working as both ground crew and railcar mover operator
Operate various powered mobile equipment on site (skidsteer, forklift, loader, tractor)
Complete yard maintenance including mowing grass and snow removal
Perform general duties within the facility, including but not limited to sweeping, shoveling and general housekeeping
Accurately complete necessary documentation and equipment inspections
Must have the ability to work safely, communicate well and perform in a team environment
Willing to cross train and learn duties of other departments
Understand and follow standard operating procedures and policies
Comply with company safety policies and procedures
Willing to work a flexible work schedule including overtime, holidays, nights and weekends as required
Any other duties that may be needed to help drive the success of Northgate
Education/Experience:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred but not required.
Physical Requirement
Physically able to climb up and down railcars/ladders safely, walk up and down steps, and work at heights
Willing to work outside in inclement weather
Can lift, push, pull at least fifty (50) pounds
In good physical condition (able to walk one (1) to two (2) miles per shift)
Qualifications
Read, write, and understand English
Basic math skills
Computer skills (light data entry)
Valid Drivers License
Must be 18 years of age.
