The SICC is an institution of the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN) and has a mandate to protect, preserve and promote cultures and languages of the First Nations Peoples of Saskatchewan. The President is responsible for the overall operation of the Centre and to provide effective leadership to achieve the mission and objectives of the Saskatchewan Indigenous Cultural Centre.
The ideal candidate will bring the following professional attributes, experience and knowledge:
- Proven sound business and administrative organizations skills to manage the operation of the Centre in an efficient and cost-effective manner;
- Knowledge and experience with curriculum writing and development;
- Knowledge and experience with program development;
- Personal standards of trust, honesty, integrity, credibility and accountability as attested to by character references;
- Executive leadership and management experience;
- Experience and knowledge of government funding processes; including excellent negotiating skills with all levels of governments;
- Collaborative and cooperative leadership style;
- Superior written and verbal communication skills;
- Responsible for building and maintaining effective and respectful professional working relationships within the First Nation communities, tribal/agency councils, governments and other First Nations public and private organizations;
- Reports on the progress and achievements of the Centre to the Board of Governors, FSIN Treasury Board, Saskatchewan Indian Education & Training Commission and the Chiefs in Assembly.
Qualifications:
- Masters Degree in Education or Administration, or related area of studies
- Ability to speak a First Nation language
- Extensive knowledge of First Nations cultures, histories, protocols, practices, values and traditions
- Strong experience reporting to, and working with, a Board of Governors
