Job Purpose:
Under the direction of the Settlement and Community Support Director, the Settlement Support Worker in Schools assists refugee and immigrant students and their families with school related and cultural issues by providing connection to education and community services, counseling, facilitating group and individual programs, and coordinating the integration of services.
Education and Experience:
University degree in education, social work, or related field and, one year of work experience providing school age children/family counselling services; OR,
Graduate of post-secondary program (2 years minimum) in education or social sciences, and, two years work experience providing school age children/family counselling services.
Experience working in a school setting with families, teachers and school administrators.
Experience working in a cross-cultural environment.
Conflict Management and mediation training.
Public speaking experience.
Experience conducting/facilitating workshops.
