Support Workers are an integral part of the PALS staff team. They guide, support and assist residents with their recovery goals and service plans. The PALS support worker works under the direct supervision of the PALS Team Leader and the PALS/OAK Program Supervisor.
Support workers must have a valid driver's license and recent criminal record check. They must be willing and able to provide first aid/CPR. They must be able to take a proactive approach & provide appropriate responses to residents displaying challenging behaviors.
1. Assist residents in skills of daily living.
2. Assist residents in the management of medication.
3. Assist residents with cigarette plans.
4. Organize and participate in recreational activities.
5. Organize and conduct groups in areas such as life skills, health teaching, social/leisure/recreational etc.
6. Provide assistance with transportation to and from Food Bank, grocery shopping (one on one, group outing), and other shopping.
7. Maintain accurate financial accounting re: use of peoples fund, recreation monies, petty cash etc.
8. Ensure appropriate records are completed and maintained, such as contact notes, incident
reports, etc.
9. Participate in staff training, including in-service presentations, First Aid/CPR, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, ASIST, MHFA and in-service education.
10. Be willing and able to provide First Aid/CPR.
11. Attend staff meetings and staff planning/team meetings as required.
12. Provide physical assistance as needed to residents in the areas of grocery shopping and apartment maintenance.
13. Have knowledge of Mental Health First Aid and provide appropriate, professional responses to residents disclosing thoughts of self-harm or suicide, hallucinations, delusions or other symptoms.
14. Other duties as may be assigned.
