Summary:
Zagim Anishinabk currently has a herd of approximately 123 bison with 5 (five) separate paddocks/pastures. Herds are currently kept separately in three different paddocks/pastures.
The Bison Farm Operator must possess the knowledge and skills to manage the daily operations of a range type Bison operations.
Duties
The Operator will be responsible for the following duties:
- Responsible for the feeding, watering and daily herd care of the Bison;
- Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all infrastructure, including Bison fence repairs and machinery/equipment;
- Potential interaction with internal and external resources, including other Bison Herd Managers, Educational and Cultural Groups and/or Public Engagement Sessions;
- Attend any hands-on Bison handling or training sessions;
- Maintain Bison Herd health data and records on an on-going basis;
- Prepare monthly reports to the Zagim Anishinabk;
- Prepare and assist in the Bison stock intake to include sorting and moving to Paddocks;
- Ensure all facilities and infrastructure are secure and all vandalism reported and documented;
- Assess and monitor the availability of native grasses being grazed and water source availability with the ability to recommend the moving of the herd, if required;
- Any other duties as assigned from time to time.
