Description

The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations (FSIN) is seeking a highly motivated individual to be the Director for all advocacy related functions and issues related to the Non- Insured Health Benefits (NIHB).  This position is responsible to provide written documentation for briefing notes, updates and forward planning.  The Director will be reporting directly on program initiatives and goals. Responsibilities will involve maintaining existing relationships and conduct negotiations with NIHB, FSIN, private agencies, service providers/individuals, preparation and monitoring of budget proposals, yearly expenditures, strategic plans, and reports to funding agencies.

Provide an environment of support for individuals and bands seeking advocacy for health issues.
Create effective working relationships with federal and provincial governments.
Work to resolve communication issues and policy disputes with respect to NIHB, other health programs and services.
Provide education and understanding of the NIHB program including the inner workings of First Nations and Inuit Health.
Promote and implement recommendations from the First Nations working group.
Support the work of the tripartite Home Care committee, especially in relation to NIHB discharge planning issues (such as medical transportation, drug coverage considerations, etc.)
As needed, support the work of the FSIN Home Care Working Group, especially in relation to NIHB related policies, processes, issues, etc.
Assist in the coordination of press conferences, news releases, newsprint, etc as it relates to NIHB.
Work with the national working group to address NIHB policies.
Collaborate with other advocates nationally to utilize best business practices.
Prepare budget reports and work plans as required.
Research policy development as it relates to the NIHB.
Investigate healthcare complaints as required.
Work with health regions to address and resolve issues.
