Description

The City of Swift Current is inviting applications for a temporary full-time position of Parks Maintainer in the Community Services Division. This will be a 9-month term that will start in September and end in May 2025.

Under the direction of the Parks Superintendent, you will be responsible for Horticultural practices, including: city flower beds, downtown planters, and perennial beds. This will include planting, watering, fertilizing flower beds, and application of herbicides. Other duties will include tree planting, pruning, and annual bed design. During the winter months you will be required to operate and maintain the outdoor ice rinks on a split shift.    

Basic Requirements:
    Grade 12 diploma (or equivalent)
    A valid Saskatchewan driver's license;
    A drivers abstract that must be provided annually.    
    Willingness to obtain a Criminal Record Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check as we are a Youth Certified Employer.
    Power Mobile Equipment Training.
    OH&S Level 1;
    Ground Disturbance.
    Able to operate small gas engines - powered equipment (e.g. lawn mowers, rototillers, string trimmers, chainsaws, etc.);
    The ability to lift 50 lbs.
    Able to perform outside physical labour;
    Work successfully with minimal direct supervision.
    Be punctual and have good time management.
    Current Pesticide Applicators License or obtain within the first 3 months of hire.
Proof of certification will be required.

Desirable Requirements:
    Post Secondary degree, diploma, or certificate in Horticulture or willing to obtain.
    Practical experience in Ornamental Horticulture; annual flower bed design and maintenance of plants
    Knowledge of proper horticultural practices, pest and disease identification and mitigation; and utilizing the equipment necessary to perform these tasks.
    Previous experience in the operation of utility tractors (20 - 130 hp).
    Occupational Health and Safety Training.
