Description

Prairie Sky School is a K to Grade 8 elementary school located on Treaty 4 Territory in Regina, Saskatchewan, seeking a Professional A Teacher to cover a family leave (1-year term) beginning the 2024/25 school term. We are a Qualified Independent School (QIS), teaching the Saskatchewan curriculum with a specific focus on Arts, Nature, and Community: lessons are taught through an Arts lens, carried out in Nature (as much as possible), and seek to build our local Community.
Prairie Sky School draws heavily on the following educational philosophies:
- Land-based education;
- Reggio Emilia approach;
- Waldorf (Steiner Schools) Education;
- Forest School approach.
Classroom lessons, assessment, and reporting favour:
- Reconciliation as outlined by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Calls to Action;
- integrated curriculum (cross-curricular approach);
- experiential education;
- anecdotal recording and reporting;
- project-based units of learning;
- collaboration with other classes and educators.
The successful candidate must:
- possess a Professional A Teaching Certificate for the province of Saskatchewan and be in good standing with the Saskatchewan Professional Teachers Regulatory Board (SPTRB);
- current First Aid certification (Level C);
- experience and interest in outdoor education;
- experience and interest in arts education;
- experience and interest in holistic education;
- possess excellent written communication skills (necessary for the anecdotal model of student assessment and reporting utilized by PSS);
- be a team player and possess strong interpersonal communication skills;
- applicants must be a resident of Canada.
Valuable assets (not required):
- Anti-racism/anti-oppression training;
- Bushcraft/fieldcraft skills;
- Canoe certification (Paddle Canada Lake Canoe certification);
- Mental-Health First Aid training;
- Trail and city cycling experience;
- Wilderness First Aid training and wilderness experience.
