Description

At the Ministry of Highways, we work with our partners to provide a safe, reliable transportation system.  The ministry considers its data a valuable asset that allows us to be more transparent, collaborative and citizen-centered through data driven insights and decisions.

The Information Management Unit at the Ministry of Highways is seeking a Data Scientist that is highly motived, detail-orientated, innovative and an effective communicator.

As the ministry expert on data, you will assess the current state through a maturity analysis based on leading data governance and management practices and industry trends. You will develop and implement a refresh of ministry-wide data governance to establish how data will be collected, managed, used and shared.  You will work with leaders throughout the ministry to design and implement strategies that allow them to make informed decisions.  You will unlock insights from data sources and assist these units in telling a story through words, visualization and interpretation.

This position is based in Regina.

Requirements:

- Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Management, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
- Proven experience as a Data Scientist with experience in data governance, data management, or a related role within a complex organizational environment.
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and proficiency in SQL for data extraction.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate complex findings into actionable insights.
