Description

CLSI is now accepting applications for an Associate Scientist position within our Bio/Life Sciences department on the Biological X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy (BioXAS)-Imaging beamline station within the BioXAS sector. The sector consists of two insertion device sources and three independently operating beamline endstation. BioXAS-Imaging is an undulator beamline dedicated to multi-resolution X-ray Fluorescence Imaging and the other two beamlines with the wiggler source are perfectly fit for X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy in extremely diluted samples.

Responsibilities:
- Training and supporting users at the BioXAS-Imaging beamline to ensure that they are able to perform their scientific experiments in a safe and effective manner.
- Assisting users and other beamline staff in sample preparation and data processing.
- Aligning beamline optical components and setting up the endstation for users experiments.
- Analyzing and solving routine technical problems and developing recommendations to solve difficult, complex, or unusual problems.
- Preparing beamline documentation and ensuring designs conform to CLS standards, and other relevant codes, standards and practices.
- Assisting the Beamline Responsible in the beamline upgrade/maintenance projects.
- Developing technical expertise in specific areas of beamline operation and equipment, either in hardware or software.
- Working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, is a requirement of the position.

Qualifications:

Essential:
- A relevant Masters degree or Ph.D.
- Experience with, or knowledge of, XFI or XAS techniques.
- A clear aptitude for service, teamwork, and research, particularly in programs requiring collaboration.

Desirable:
- Experience in supporting users at a synchrotron facility.
- Experience with hard X-ray fluorescence microtomography.
- Experience with beamline micro-focusing optics.
- Basic programming skills in Python or C/C++ .
