Description

The Melville Dance Association is a well-established, non-profit organization committed to providing a friendly, fun, disciplined environment of dance for students ages 4-18.
We are seeking a ballet instructor to join our team for the 2024-2025 dance year with the intent to continue in subsequent years. Classes run September-May with a recital on the 4th weekend of May. Current enrolment is approximately 120 dancers in ballet, jazz, hip-hop and tap.

Detailed Job Duties:
- Provide ballet instruction to groups of students ages 7-18 (with potential of adding more disciplines)
- Provide feedback on student progress
- Assess students' ability to perform at their best while maintaining an appropriate level of discipline
- Create lesson plans, choreograph performances and select music & costumes for annual recital

Qualifications and Skills:
- Must be able to teach ballet classes on a regular weekly schedule
- Ability to effectively interact with students, parents and other staff members
- Ability to create a safe and supportive environment in each class
- Dance Instructor certification (RAD, ADAPT) is an asset
- Prior experience as a dance instructor (multiple disciplines including but not limited to ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop) is an asset
- Dance Examiner certification is an asset
- Physical strength and endurance
- Strong leadership
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Passionate for music and dancing
- First Aid and CPR is an asset
- Criminal Record (with vulnerable sector) Check
- Enjoy working with children
- Work independently under minimal supervision

Depending on qualifications and desire of the applicant, there is potential to fulfill an Artistic Director role with artistic and administrative duties.
