Shelter Valley Pork Farm LP is in need of Pork Production Technician
NOC Code: 84120

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Work closely with the supervisor to manage pork program
2. Maintain an awareness of animal comfort at all times
3. Perform heat checks and breed sows using Artificial Insemination
4. Determine semen requirements and place order with lab
5. Perform heat checks in gilt pens
6. Turn feed system on and off as required in order to feed hogs in breeding and gestation area; adjust feeders as required
7. Ensure water is available at all times
8. Heat check sows in gestation
9. Conduct pregnancy tests at various stages in gestation
10. Prepare medication to be administered; conduct visual health checks
11. Locate sows and gilts for vaccinating purposes
12. Locate and lock up sows in farrowing rooms
13. Pull manure pits according to barn protocols
14. Pressure wash breeding and gestation as required
15. Pull cull sows and ensure proper withdrawal periods are adhered to
16. Advise Barn Manager of Production or Maintenance of any concerns
17. Process paper work daily
18. Conduct a thorough visual check of breeding and gestation prior to leaving for the day
19. Adhere to strict environmental controls
20. Perform other general farm duties as assigned

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
1. Knowledge of swine operations and best farming practices
2. knowledge of feeding programs
3. Patience and empathy to work with animals
4. Analytical and problem-solving skills
5. Decision making skills
6. Good written and verbal English communication skills
7. Ability to work individually or as part of a group

WAGE/BENEFITS:     $ 18.00 per hour, 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week with two varied days off per week, Company's Health and Dental benefit program which is 100% employer-funded after 90 days of employment, three weeks paid vacation after one year of service
