CLSI is now accepting applications for an Associate Scientist position within our Materials and Chemical Sciences department on the BXDS Beamlines. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the effective operation and ongoing development of the BXDS beamlines.
Responsibilities:
- Provides user support to general users, beamteam members, fee-for-service clients, and CLS staff. Assists with the following functions: beamline and endstation setup, assisting with sample preparation and trains users on how to operate beamline, user support beyond normal working hours in accordance with established CLS procedures, and measurements/data analysis.
- Supervise and support users to ensure that they are able to perform their scientific experiments in an effective manner.
- Analyses and solves beamline or technical problems and develops recommendations to solve difficult, complex or unusual problems.
- Will aid the Beamline Responsible in beamline upgrade/maintenance projects.
- Develops technical expertise in specific areas of beamline operation and equipment, in hardware or software.
- Prepares beamline documentation and operational manuals.
- Working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, is a requirement of the position.
Qualifications:
- A relevant Masters degree or Ph.D. in the natural sciences.
- A minimum of two years of directly related experience with a Masters degree, or a minimum one year related experience with a recently completed and relevant Ph.D.
- Experience in X-ray diffraction is required.
- Experience in SAXS is considered an asset.
- Basic programming skills in python or C++ is an important asset.
- Experience with advanced beamline instrumentation (detectors, cryostats, in-situ cells, etc.) would be considered an asset.
- Candidates should demonstrate a clear aptitude for research, particularly in programs requiring collaboration.
