Description

The Schizophrenia Society of Saskatchewan Inc. is looking for a person with lived experience of mental illness and/or addiction concerns to fill the position of Peer Support Worker.

The successful applicant would provide one to one and sometimes group-based support to other people with mental health issues. They will empower the person they are working with to make better choices related to their life, based on self determination and person-centered goal setting.

Duties: (in relation to working with people with mental illness)
Establish and maintain relationships by developing trust and support.
Act as a role model in self-care and self-awareness.
Be prepared to share own lived experience.
Provide support/advocacy in navigating the Health and Social Service systems and connecting to appropriate resources in the community.
Promote empowerment and self-determination through non-judgmental listening and person-centered goal setting.
Complete documentation as requested.
Requirements, training and knowledge
Proof of successful completion of high school diploma or GED
A negative Police Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check
A valid class G drivers license.
Daily access to a reliable vehicle.
Current CPR certification  Level C or willingness to obtain.
Peer Support Training Certification or willingness to obtain.
Current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) training or willingness to obtain.
Current Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) or willingness to obtain.

Experience
Lived experience with Mental Health and experience working with individuals who have a serious mental illness.
Basic working knowledge of computer software.
Ability to work cooperatively as a part of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
Good interpersonal/verbal/written communication skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
