The City of Yorkton requires a university arts graduate for a temporary position as an Archives Intern from November 16 March 31, 2021.
This will be an opportunity to develop key skills for advancement in a professional career, including time management, project management, and communication, interacting with stakeholders, working collaboratively with heritage and information professionals.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Working under the supervision of the Heritage Researcher, the Archives Intern will spend the majority of their time
-Assisting with the digitizing, documenting, and sorting audio recordings within the City of Yorktons archival collections (data management)
-Transcribed information to be entered and organized within a central archival database (cataloguing)
-Become familiar with the finding aids standards as used in contemporary archives
-Assisting the Heritage Researcher in the organization and accessibility of archival materials, with particular attention to be paid to the digitized and transcribed collection.
-Using a relational approach to cataloging, describing relationships between different record-types and constructing hierarchical relationships for more complex collections
-Planning, development and presentation of an end-of-project report with recommendations for future work.
Qualifications:
-Must be a recent post-secondary graduate, under 30 years of age and must be registered with the Young Canada Works Candidate inventory. You must be either a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada and legally entitled to work in Canada
-Post-secondary arts degree
-Preference will be given to those with a strong arts background, in history, archives study, library science or urban planning
-Previous experience with archives, libraries, or museums will be considered an asset
-Attention to details and exhibit quality workmanship in materials production
