POSITION AUTHORITY:
Responsible for the health and safety of children while in their care
Responsible to serve as a role model for children in all areas
Reports to the Program Manager
CONFIDENTIALITY:
Shall maintain confidentiality regarding staff, residents, Board and business matters
PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT:
Working in conjunction with the Executive Director, the Shelter Program Manager, and he Outreach Worker(s) (herein referred to as the Program Development Team) to develop and implement program materials that respond to the unique needs of children in the shelter.
DUTIES/CRITICAL FACTORS:
-plans, schedules and provides for activities which guide child's emotional, social and intellectual development
-prepares program material to supplement learning activities
-create a happy, clean caring environment
-provide stimulation to encourage co-operative play and encourage other positive characteristics-i.e. independence, thoughtfulness, courtesy, etc.
-be aware of situations in which children come from and encourage desirable behavior in children by positive reinforcement rather than discipline where possible
-be aware of and take advantage of opportunities offered to improve your professional development and job skills
-implements playroom rules
-prepares snacks for children
-washes all toys after every session with children in play room
-responsible for care of: infants, toddlers and children
-good interpersonal skills with children and with the child's parent
-must be able to cope with stress
-must be able to pass a Vulnerable Sector record check
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
-Completed post-secondary education preferably in the field of Early Childhood Development or Child Care
-at least 2 or more years experience in the field of child care
-valid Saskatchewan Driver's License
-Ability to speak Cree or Dene would be an asset
