CLSI is now accepting applications for an Associate Scientist to work with the soft X-Ray Spectromicroscopy (SM) beamline team to perform the operations of a new and unique Scanning Transmission X-Ray Microscope devoted to cryo-tomography (Cryo-STXM) and to participate in the ongoing scientific and technical developments, particularly Cryo-STXM Ptychography, of the beamline.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in operation and further developments of Cryo-STXM, e.g., Cryo-STXM-Ptychography
- Develop the user program and provide user support on the Cryo-STXM
- Be involved in technical developments for the monochromator and X-PEEM upgrades
- The applicant will be encouraged to develop her/his own research in their area of interest (with a preference for Cryo-Spectro-Tomography) or in collaboration with members of the CLS Spectromicroscopy beam team.
Qualifications:
- All applicants are expected to have completed a Masters Degree in a related Physics, Chemistry, Engineering or related scientific discipline, a Ph.D. Degree is preferred.
- Experience in developing or operating a synchrotron beamline is an asset
- Experience and a high degree of knowledge capability with ultra-high vacuum and complex electro-mechanical systems, and background in diffraction microscopy
- A clear aptitude for instrumentation and science, and a desire to participate in an active and exciting science program
- Working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, is a requirement of the position
